I'VE BEEN CHECKING A FEW SITES AND WAS UNABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT VEHICLE AND YEAR THE ENGINE CAME OUT OF. THE REAR BLOCK DRIVER SIDE CASTING NUMBER IS 3970010. FRONT PASSENGER BLOCK STAMP SUFFIX ID NUMBER IS 13L177825, V0220CKD. I NEED TO FIND OUT IF IT'S 350 OR 327 AND WHAT YEAR AND TRUCK IT CAME OUT OF.

IT'S CURRENTLY IN MY SONS 64 C10 SHORT SIDESTEP WE ARE RESTORING.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP:chevy.

Re: Need help identifying my small block v8

I used Mortec on mine 5 years ago, same number, but just tried it and got the endless internet runaround. Here's another site with the info:

Looking here at your suffix code CKD, it is a 350

http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-cod...s-suffix-2.php

To find exactly what year it is, you will need to find the date code on the back of the block. I believe it is on the passenger side.

Cool Re: Need help identifying my small block v8

Thanks for the info. So it may be a 350. Now I just have one last question. I've been told that this may be a high nickle 350 block since the numbers behind the block passenger side list the "509". From what I've been told some of those 350 "509" sbc where made with higher nickle. Is it?

REAR BLOCK PASSANGER SIDE:
H20 010
509 020

REAR BLOCK DRIVER SIDE CASTING NUMBER:
3970010
PASSENGER BLOCK STAMP SUFFIX ID NUMBER:
13L177825, V0220CKD

Re: Need help identifying my small block v8

Yeah that is a 350, if iam not mistaken the (010) is ten percent more tin and the (020) is twenty percent more nickel. That means that those percentages were put into the casting of the block when it was made. It makes its a more desirable block and alot more stronger and better to be able to withstand heat. The 3970010 was also a earlier 302 block but the VIN number on the front of the block will be able to tell you exactly what it is.

Yes the 010 and the 020 is indicative of the tin and nickel contend of the block. But I'm not understandinf some of what you posted of the passenger side casting numbers. The H20 could be part of the casting date, as in August 20th. You might take another look.
