GM Fire Extinguisher???

Cleaning up a bit and found this GM Fire Extinguisher. It was in the trunk of my '68 Nova when I bought it 22 years ago, I'm pretty sure that it didn't come from the factory with the car. Can anyone tell me a bit of history about this piece?

Thanks

It is a dealer accessory. It would also be correct for a truck as well. There is a chance it did come with your car. Trevor

Re: GM Fire Extinguisher???

Funny thing is the Nova was optioned with a 2 barrel 307 and butternut yellow paint; nothing else. Interesting to think that the original buyer sprang for the fire extinguisher.

Re: GM Fire Extinguisher???

There was a time when having a fire extinguisher on/in your car or truck was okay. Don't know why we don't now, but that's life. I keep one in my '96. It used to be in my '69, but there's nothing in the '69 now, except....well, there's nothing.

My first car that I ever bought was a '54 Ford. I kept a cheap 1-gallon can in it, beneath the left rear taillight. I got rear-ended and the can took on the same shape as the back of the car. I was lucky that it didn't get punctured and leak....it was full of Texaco Sky-Chief Supreme....36 cents worth!

Maybe the dealer threw it in. We got freebies with some of our new car purchases in the past.

i keep one in every car/truck, when i was a volunteer fireman i seen way to many car burn to the ground,if you car catches fire you are the only one to help it because it don't take but a few minutes, no time to wait on somebody, unless you hate your car
