Driveshaft question
I am putting a turbi 400 tranny in my 69 chevy truck and the 2 piece Driveshaft is 5 inches too long. Could I use a Driveshaft from a 76 chevy longbed instead. that is the year of the tranny. Thanks in advance

Re: Driveshaft question
Is the 69 a LWB also? and was the tranny in the 76 a 400? The Turbo 350 has a different yoke so even if it is right length you would have to change that. Otherwise you should have no problems IF its same length. You know that you have to pull yoke out one inch from seated (against the case of the transmission) to measure it, right? Is the 76 a one piece or two piece? You can always to to a one piece shaft also or cut the one you have. Most drivetrain shops (here in Houston anyways) will cut one down for about a hundred bucks

Re: Driveshaft question
it seems like alot less hassle to have your diveshaft shortened and ballaned with the correct yoke. Maybe have them check out/replace your ujoints and carrier bearing since you're there.
you know instead of tracking down a junkyard driveshaft hope it's the right length, hope the wearing parts are in good shape, hope it hasn't been bent, hoping it hasn't been worked on since it was ballanced last.

Re: Driveshaft question
there's a lot of variables here, i would tend to lean to a no on the answer... but you can always run a tape measure and take a look at carrier bearing mounting type.
