Re: DYNO numbers for the 408SBC
Thanks everyone.
I'm driving on the street as much as so I can get a good wear pattern established on the gears. Before I drop a big trans brake launch. I have a few parts I'm waiting for: HVH 1" carb spacers and quick fuels metering blocks. Once these hit the door steps I'm off to the track. Marv, I'm just running a couple of 7" K&N's I put on last night. I do want to build a box like you have out of sheet aluminum so the cowl can also be functional.

Re: DYNO numbers for the 408SBC
Definately sounds good. Sounds better than my truck at idle, that's for sure. I really think I want to move over to a solid roller at some point. They just sound sooo friggin good. I am pretty sure it will go faster with a solid roller too compared to my hyd. Just a little more maintenence.

Re: DYNO numbers for the 408SBC
Super you truck sounds plenty good. Nothing like a LS engine screaming down the track. I'm going to go test n tune in a few weeks. The 1st big race will be AUG 5th.
I really don't think there should be to much maintenance on a mechanical cam if ya run a shaft mount system. If one has to stay on top of the valve lash something is going away. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: DYNO numbers for the 408SBC
Never hurts to check it though..
Looks like I will be sneaking off to sac this weekend to do some 1/8 mile passes (didn't think I was going to be able to go until Oct 15). Might run a couple out the back door if the clock shines me something in the 6.8x or faster. By Oct 15 I will have the cage in it. Let us know how things turn out for you when you go. BTW, how are the new springs?

Re: DYNO numbers for the 408SBC
You are correct. I'm a little OCD on my valve lash, always checking and re-checking.
I hope you hit into the 10's if you get to run it out the back door! Cage will be nice. I fear that I might need one soon. The springs were wrong. They dropped down like the Moroso springs. I will have to call them and send back. This time I'm going to make them longer. The headers didn't fit either. Those will be going to the nova.

Re: DYNO numbers for the 408SBC
I know you put the truck on a scale, but are you sure your front end weight is accurate? Not saying my sheet was/is perfect, but if a spring mfg gave you a spring and it produced similar ride height to the spring I suggested, kind of makes me thing you should double check front axle weight before ordering another set of springs. Just cheap insurance.

AllenKarber,
Thanks, it sounds just as good revved up in the RPM's also. bigsnookmaster, We are running the same valve train. I have the 1.6 ratio Super, I swear you are genius. I should rescale the thing and then have another set built

Re: DYNO numbers for the 408SBC
Mike, that engine sounds good!! I'll be curious to see how it runs with the 2 carbs. I played around with a 1050 dominator on mine and it slowed about .05, so I put the hp1000 back on and it picked back up. Maybe, with a brake, it might have picked up, but leaving off of the footbrake, it didn't. Your mileage may vary!! lol
Just curious, what kind of mufflers are on your truck, and what did you use to put discs on the rear? I'd like to put discs on the rear of mine at some point, and I've been thinking of putting tailpipes on mine to help quiet down some of the cab resonance. Let us know when you get to make some passes with it!

Re: DYNO numbers for the 408SBC
I don't know that I can put myself at the genius level
NXtruck, I also have done disks on the rear using 4th gen F-body calipers with Caprice rotors. I had a local shop water jet me some backing plates. They may still have the file laying around and might be able to cut another set. Think they were about $75 for the backing plates. Only thinkg I did not have them do was cut the holes to mount the calipers to the backing plates and holes for the backing plates to the axle flanges. I took the blank plates and drilled accordingly. Brakes work great.

Re: DYNO numbers for the 408SBC
I should Fill up and GPS a road trip to see what it gets. The Mufflers are 3" Borla XR1's
The rear disc break kit is a Wilwood kit for the Truck 12 bolt. make sure you do not buy the car kit. The flanges on the car housing have a smaller bolt pattern. I will try the DYNA tech's on the Nova. I will keep everyone posted when I do make some runs. I just got my HVH super sucker carb spacers in. Just waiting on the Quick fuels metering blocks so I can take out the power valve plugs in the rear and run square jetting. They have those on a 2 week back order. This is week 2 so I'm hoping to have them soon.

Re: DYNO numbers for the 408SBC
Thanks for the info Shaun and Mike! I appreciate it! Sounds like I'll be looking into going the route you did, Shaun. I daily drive a '00 Camaro SS and if need be, can use it for patterning some brackets.
Thanks again to you both for the input!
