its the joints on the axle shaft from differential to hub, theres 6 bolts holding it to the differential... you have to replace the whole shaft

cv=centrifical velocity joint depending on the use they can resemble two u joints connected together there purpose is both as a pain in the ass to repair and to give you tighter driveline angles. most older jeeps have a cv joint on the front drive shaft where it goes in to the T-case

I respectfully disagree...

We are talking about two different things here.

CV=Constant Velocity joint, and a double cardan joint. They both transmit power at greater angles than u-joints, but they are different.

Blue_71 is right about cv joints on drive axles. Check this out http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...UTF-8%26sa%3DG . (Sorry, I don't know how to post the link with only a word or two).

My K20 has a double cardan joint between the t-case and front driveshaft. It resembles 2 u-joints as an assembly, as shown here http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...UTF-8%26sa%3DG

Hope this helps...

that first link stocker posted shows what i was talking about for the IFS trucks... weve found those big ball bearings in our driveway before... never had much luck with them on the 89 (so far weve replaced the shaft on each side twice)
the way you replace it, take off the wheel, take off the big nut in the center of the hub (youll need to hold the hub somehow), now go back to the differential and start taking out the 6 bolts (easier to do this now so you can roll the shaft by rolling the hub) once you get those out you should be able to monkey the shaft out around the a-arms
