Question Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under a bench seat?

I've stil got my gas tank in the cab and don't plan to tackle that project for a while, but the truck has no stereo whatsoever. I'd like to put a subwoofer under the bench seat somehow, but it looks like there's only about 5" of clearance.

I'll be putting in some kick panel speakers for the mids/highs.

Anybody got a speaker box they're using under a bench seat? Anybody make one or have plans for one?

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

i used to have an old round kicker solobaric in a factory wedge box that fit after i cut the seat adjustment cable and a piece of metal on the pass side.

short answer.... you, or a stereo shop in your area. i dont know of a box that will fit right from the factory. not now anyway...

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

I took my gas tank out and used that area, 6x9's in custom fiberglass houses and 10" sub between the buckets seats, 6.5" woofs and 1" tweets in the front...again in custom fiberglass houses.

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

Infinty Kappas are on the deep side...when I went to make the front speaker houses my original intent was to have them in the kick panels. They just stuck out too far. So I mounted them to the floor board up high as possible and believe it or not....they do not interfere with you feet and sound wonderful.

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

My 68 has a 8 in. JL Audio subwoofer under the seat on the passenger side. There also was an Alpine amp under the drivers' side. The place where the stereo system was bought installed everything and made a box for the sub to go in under the seat and installed blue carpet on the box to match the truck. The 68 was wrecked a few years ago and has been sitting until I can get the money to restore it but the sub is still under the seat if you want me to measure the sub box for you. I was planning on seeing if I could put a 10 in. sub in when I redo it. The 8" worked fine and sounded good but it eventually busted with all the loud rock music playing.

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

Panasonic has some nice looking shallow depth subs in 10" and 12" for about $100. They're only 2.75-3" mounting depth! So far those are what I'm thinking to use, but MAN, there's not much room under there!

Graham, I'd like to see how your project goes! My email is: needsnochill@comcast.net I'm at work or I'd email you now.

Chevyman, those dimensions might be helpful. I'm wondering how close you can get to the bottom of the seat before you bottom your arse out going over bumps!

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

I installed a Kenwood KSC-SW1 small all in one powered subwoofer in mine. Low hump 70 CST....fits prefectly under the middle of the seat....sorry no pics. Not the heart stopping bass but pretty darn good for one of these small cabs. I also put several layers of sound deadener.

I also have 2 6x9 speakers under the seat in the wedge shaped enclosures. I had to disconnect the seat adjuster cable but the seat is always all the way back anyway.

In my C20, I put in a pair of the custom autosound stealth speakers under the seat...they sound suprisingly good. BTW, I also had to disconnect the adjuster cable in this truck too.

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

In my previous 67 I had two 10 in subs under the bench seat one under the pass. side and one under the drivers side. I had a 600 watt amp. and crossover under the middle. I removed the adj. rod and placed 3/4 in spacers under the rear mounts of the seat. my boxes were 6 in. high and 12 in long and wide.

My new 67 has buckets and there is a tube brace in the way of installing subs. So the in cab tank will have to go.

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

I was planning on doing a little bit of work on the truck this weekend if it doesn't rain so I'll take some measurements and try and get some pictures of the sub box. It will probably be Saturday or Sunday.

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

Lemield, I'd love to see your setup. Any chance on getting some pics?

Also, how much room does a person's butt need to bounce before you notice that there's a speaker box under you? Is this not a problem?

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

Theyre not subs...but wal-mart sells 6x9 speaker boxes for around 20 bux each. I bought 2 of them and stuffed 3-way Pioneers in them then set them in each footwell against my bench seat. They are out of the way and sound pretty dang good considering...

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

http://www.realmofexcursion.com/ nice site for audiofreaks and has a lot of video's on making interiors so loud you need earplugs and destructing verry expensive speakers and such .
i've seen a clip on there from the constructor of snailshell boxes these boxes are tuned to a couple of frequencies and give amazing base for the amount of power that and the size of the speaker itself they put in them these are like organ pipes and pretty long and hard to make.

but theres also a clip there of a 25 watt or so 8 inch speaker they made on top of a piece of rainpipe that vibrates the books of the shelve in a bedroom think they used only a few feet of pipe this might be worth a try since it takes verry little space in the truck and its as cheap as a bit of ply and a piece of rainpipe cut to a sertain length

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

Only five years old = that is dredging up the past.

I just made some boxes for 6x9's under the seat (about 3" deep) and made a triangle shaped box that held 2- 61/2" round speakers bolted to the front of the seat with a cup holder on top. Decent sound and out of the way.

Crutchfield makes "under Seat Speakers/Subwoofers in a 5" or 8" (I believe).
As for Kick Panel Speakers, don't go with the "Status Quo".
I went with theses made by a Board Member.....
His name is Tony.

Re: Old question: Who makes a speaker box that fits under the seat?

those look good but i suspect you have to watch out hitting the screen with youre feet

from the looks of it he could make those on a vacuform if he can get material thick enough to form

you can install super slim subwoofer under car seat . 8 inch or 10 inch is better.
