Question from a newbie

Hello,

I'm considering restoring an old 3100/3600. My question is was there a 3/4 ton truck in the 47-55 series that had a six foot bed? I guess I thought only the 3100 had the short bed but I have come across a picture of what appears to be a 3/4 or larger truck with a shorter bed. One of the things in the picture that is different than the 3100 is that there is an outside stake right next to the front of the rear fender. The truck in the picture was at a angle so I could not see if there was another stake before the front of the bed but I am expecting more pictures later today that hopefully will clear this up for me.

Oh yeah I started a 47 years ago but was over my head - I did save all the good parts and stored them for over 20 years. Now after three motorcycle restorations I want to go back to an old Chevy truck and use those parts I have kept safe all these years.

Look at the old car manual project link in my signature. In the books there are tables that list the wheelbase, etc. for the different series. Around 117" is 6.5' short bed, 135" is 8' long bed.

Long bed wasn't 8' for AD trucks, it was around 7 1/2'.

You're on the right track, the number of stake pockets will be the easiest way to identify...except 54-55.1's.

I stand corrected, it is 125" wb for long bed, even on TF. I always thought they were long enough to get a standard piece of lumber or plywood in with the tailgate up. Next size is the 135". So much for memory on a Friday night.
