Bigger tires

What is the largest, tallest, tires that will fit the stock rims on the rear of a dually. I need new rear tires and the previous owner put new 285/75/16's on the front, but they look way too wide for the dualls on back. I've currently got 235/85/16's on back. Does a 255/85/16 fit? They would be closer in height to the front and are about an inch narrower than the front, and 3/4" wider than what is on there now. Any comments from those with direct experience would be appreciated.

Cheers,
