Power Steering on an L6 250 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My '69 GMC has no factory power steering. I found a power steering pump bracket on e-bay a while ago for this engine, but I'd like to get a bit more info. Does anyone have pics of an L6 engine with power steering? Where does the bracket attach? Will I have to change the AIR system?

You have to have a pulley for the crank.I say this because I have 2 bracket set-ups and no pulley for either.One I pulled off and didn't get the pulley(DUH) and the other I got from a friend who didn't have the pulley.

Here's a couple. I got the hardware from a Nova. The mounting bracket that the pump sits on and attaches to the head I got from the Chevy dealer about 15 years ago. It didin't line up so I had to cut it. Your best bet is to find a 70's type Chevy or Nova six cylinder to get the mounting hardware from cause they're hard to come by.

blue C10, also be aware that there are two different types of brackets for the 250,The one that came on the integral head engine(where the intake and exhaust manifolds are part of the head) must be modified to fit the non-integral head engine.I don't know the exact mod but someone here has done it(I also can't remember who)

Here's a few more pics someone posted a while back. First one is the parts breakdown but may not be complete. Also, the pulleys are different. I have the double pulleys on mine. The others show a better pic of how it's mounted.

There must be 10 different PS systems for these six cyl engs...different brackets & offsets, different pulley setups, drive pulleys, etc. I work on quite a few of these and unless you have boxes of spare parts to get everything to line up, I always strongly recommend you get a "complete" operating system off an engine.
There are guys on here spending months trying to get the right parts. Good luck.
NOTE: You are looking at three different systems in the pics above and none of them are stock for our trucks.

Yeah, not a GM, but I love it. 1969 GMC 32,000 - fix, drive, relax, fix... 2019 BMW R1250 GSA - Yahoooooooo 1979 Honda GL 1000 - retro touring at its best. Past: '05 Sierra 4x4 - Had 270,000 KM and running well when it was written-off by a stop sign runner. '94 F-150 from the "F word" company. I'll admit it...good truck. Sold what was left of it for $800 to a guy who came to pick it up at 11:00 PM with cash in hand. Hmm. '79 Sierra Grande (Black) organ donor - perfect rebuildable 4-bolt 350 and a good TH350. '76 Sierra Grande (Orange) - hate isn't too strong a word. Kid who bought it turned it into a hot rod. '68 C-10 R.I.P. - Dad's old truck...too far gone to resurrect. '59 C-50 - with hoist. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said.
