Intake manifold Question
Has anyone ever removed the oil splash shield under the intake manifold? I think it is held in with rivets that are pressed in...If i get a screwdriver under the shield i think i could pry them out...
Then drill and tap them for screws and install with lock washers and red locktite... Anybody ever done this??????? I glass beaded my 1970 LT1 aluminum intake and i want to get all the glass out... Any input would ease my mind befor i mangle my rare intake.. Randy

I saw something about actually prying out the rivets and re-using them. I think they twist in and out.

The things that look like rivets are actually threaded so to speak into holes. The best way to remove them is to grab them with vise grips and turn them to the left. At least I'm pretty sure the right way to turn them. You could also cut a small slot in them to make a flat bladed screwdriver work for removal. Believe me you'll be glad you discovered this before going through the drilling headache.

Ok, the rivets dont twist out. They pull strait out. Actually i pryed them out with a screwdriver. I couldent get on them with the vice grips.. Their are krimps on the side of the rivets so that they get fat in the middle. So i peened the holes a little and put red locktite in the hole and hammered the rivets back in. They held tight..
So the intake is installed and the motor goes in this week. Randy
