Re: Which swap is cheaper and worth doing

Yea Im only 18, but i couldnt make my mind up about a gas motor to build, but it just doesnt seem as fun building up a sbc, it may be easier but i know people who love their cummins and theyd help me swap it if i ran into problems! I dont think i want to get any donor truck after a 97, seems to get more complicated. How hard is it to mod a crossmember from the dodge to fit the chev chassis?

Dont' need a body lift to make it fit, it's just easier. Neither are gonna be easy to go. If you have a gas, you still need to address the fuel system when switching to diesel.

Yea, but it sounds like alot of work when switching a 6.5 too, but the end result just isnt what a cummins is. Yes maybe in the short period of time i could get a 6.5 and get it running in there easily, but just not the same. Id love to see someone get 450 horse out of a 6.5 for the money you could with a 12 valve.

for a 6.5 mech turbo or a stock 6.2 j or c code no its easyer.

donor engine and transmission and controler if its a new type
a screw on type fuel filter setup
Diesel Radiator
misc hoses for fuel line
Solid fuel lines need 2 one feed and one return
Diesel Sending unit
2 batteries
a few feet of battery cable
4 battery terminals
misc small gauge wire
1 toggle switch for high idle
1 push botton for glow plugs
Exhurst system
1 battery tray for right or left depends one what your missing

no mods needs to be done to the truck as you can use the power for the igition coil for the fuel pump shut of solonid

theres alot more work involved with a cummins swap and they are a tight fit in these trucks.

but it sounds like you allready wanted a cummins

500HP in a 6.5 has been done

Yea but how much money was put into the 6.5? I really am not sure yet but the cummins is what i was leaning towards. But if i can find a 6.5 deal i cant pass up then sure ill take it. But there has to be next to nothing for miles
