Engine, tranny and a tough decision

I asked a question a couple of days ago about a tranny swap. Now that I have a little more info here is my question. I have an opurtunity to buy a wrecked 1995 Chevy Silverado with 4L60E and 5.7 TBI. Mileage is under 100,000 but not exactly sure what it is. The thing is I can get it for $300. what should I do here? Can I get $300 dollars worth of parts out of it. It is fairly wrecked but the tranny and engine seem to be in good shape. Is it worth putting a 5.7 TBI in my truck? How much more money would it cost if I in stalled the whole thing? I know these are a lot of questions I am justing trying to find the upside and down side of this situation.

Oh, Hell Yes!

Lets see. Even if you didn't want TBI, you could always put a carb on the engine.

The 4L60E is worth a good bit of money. I'm sure you could trade it for a normal 700 if you wanted.

The serpantine setup off the front of the engine

Remember, there are guys just like us fixing up late model trucks too. They might want the drivetrain to swap into a V6 truck, or the seat, or rear end, whatever...

You can make a lot of money parting it out, if you want to take the trouble and time to do it.

How much work is it to put in? Basically would I have to purchase a new harness?

JayDub,

You would definitely need to get all the electronics and sensors that go with that TBI system.

When I was debating which TBI to put in my truck, I came to the conclusion that I didn't really want anything to do with GM electonics I opted to go with a Holley TBI system that's really great.

For $300 I would buy it for the sake of buying it. Buy it and then decide what you want to do. If you decide you don't want it. surely you could sell the whole works for at least $300.
