Truck Beds

I have a 1972 custom 10. My truck needs a new bed due to severe rust on the old one. I have saw some that have 1995 model step side beds which give them a custom look. I was curious if I could use one of these types of beds on my full size truck or would I have to modify the frame to do so?

Re: Truck Beds

Hey sherry'schevy ... and from Ohio. I don't think the frame needs to be modified if you want to use a later bed but I'll let others jump in to verify my thought.

Re: Truck Beds

The thing with the bed swap ... you end up with round wheel well openings in the front and square in the back...

Re: Truck Beds

Thats been done quite a bit and I wouldn't think there would be a problem with the frame you probably need to re drill some holes in the bed to mount it; google up that combination and look in images and see if you like it.

Smile Re: Truck Beds

Here are a few pics of my truck as it is right now. I haven't gotten started on restoration yet. All the primer is some things my dad had done to it before he passed away. This truck is not got alot of value but it means the world to me and I would love to see it restored. I hope my pic work for you, I am new at this sight and not too familar with how it works yet.

Re: Truck Beds

Looks about like I expected, definately a Kentucky truck. Your's is a long bed, late model bed won't look right at all IMO, I'm sure you can find a 67-72 long bed that's better than your's, I know there's some guys down around Somerset that have parts listed on CL. I know where one or two are up here that might be bought, I'd have to check but I'm about 2 and half hours North of you. You might check on the for sale section here on the site and find one close to you. Good luck with your truck, and I can understand you wanting to fix it since it was your Dad's.

Re: Truck Beds

Just me, but I don't think a newer bed would look that great. The truck looks like a great project. Just start fixin' it up one part at a time.
