Adding Rear A/C

How hard and what would be involved with adding rear A/C to a 2 dr Tahoe? Just wondering cuz the truck A/C has a hard time cooling the whole entire cab. I was thinking about trying to get most of the parts from a 4dr Tahoe or Suburban.

Nothing is too hard for someone else to do....

If you know what parts you need for the rear air, it seems to me that the hardest part would be the connections to get the refrigerant to the unit.

Probably 'hard & involved'..... unless you have a fat wallet....

I used an insulated 2 1/2" flex hose, a square-to-round downspout part, and attached it to my passenger floor vent ( closing the driver's side vent). Ran it under the seat and up the back.

It cooled (or heated) the entire back of my covered bed. It worked!

It cost very little.

I suppose if you had all the parts it would just be a mater of finding space to put the big thing. I am curently trying to build my own extended cab and looking into moving the rear a/c from the sububan to the new truck cab. Very interested in what you come up with.

Seems to me, in Hot Rod / fabrication mags have "add-on" heaters & A/C units for vehicles that don't have 'em. Try that?

Personally i fail to see the point. If your ac system is in good working order cooling should not be an issue. Not to mention the fact that the rear ac is run off the same compressor, so adding onto an already under performing system would just make it that much worse. My recommendation would be to spend that money and time on going thru the whole sytem, and getting the original system up to snuff. Things like cleaning out the fins in the evaporator and condensor, flushing the system, new orrifice tube, and the correct ammount of oil and refrigerant can do wonders, without all the extra work of fabbin up or retrofitting a system that u don't really need.

My thinking is that I have a standard cab truck A/C in a 2dr Tahoe. The front seat cools great. But the kids in the back seat are cooking because there is no air flow. If the front vents work so great why would they have rear A/C on the 4dr Tahoes and Suburbans?
