Custom Autosound ?

Hello I’m wondering about Custom Autosound and if you have any feed back about them. I bought a radio from them and it wouldn’t pick up any radio stations and it sounded horrible. So I sent it back they repaired it or sent me another I don’t know which. Anyway I went out and installed it and it gets radio stations now but it still sound bad. I have it hooked too 2 6x9 3 ways and and 2 4” two ways through a Alpine 200 watt amp. I have run my Ipod and a old pioneer cd player head unit off the RCA and the system rocks out. So the only poor quality part is the USA 630 I got. I don’t know if I should sent it back again or return it for something better. Has anyone else dealt with this company or products, how did your radio sound?
I don’t want to cut up my dash and I don’t want a radio that sound bad. Any tips?

Re: Custom Autosound ?

I am the only person on this message board that has a Customautosound stereo that works. I have never had a problem with it.

Re: Custom Autosound ?

My brother has one in his stepside. It works as advertised, but he added better speakers, a sub woofer, and power amp. Surprising how nice it sounds with these add-ons. And looks factory to boot.

Re: Custom Autosound ?

Well 2 for and 2 against. Sounds like this is a common problem or at least 50/50. My radio works however it sounds like the songs are coming from the bottom of a paint can. OR like the loud option isnt on on my pioneer unit.
Thanks for the input!

Re: Custom Autosound ?

I'm on a mustang forum most people that bought one of there radios hated it sounded like crap or didn't last long. Its better to cut the dash or they make a box to mount a din under the dash for street rods.200ish for there's or you can buy a good din size cd player for 100.

Do you have a "sound system" or just something that gets you by? I wonder if the split is A) the guys who wants noise to drive with and a speaker or 2 or B) the guy who want a sound system and is a audiophile type picky.
Maybe I’m too picky but if I pay for a nice radio I feel it should sound good.

i dont have a "sound system" ive never been much into that kind of thing, though i do like my music to sound good, but i dont see the need for subs and amps because i listen to mostly country and some southern rock and old rock. All i have is the custom autosound radio and a ken harrison replacement speaker that mounts right where the origional speaker did up in the dash. It sounds great to me.

I have infinity speakers coupled to my customautosound, zero complaints. If you are a picky audiophile, then put all your money into a "system". By system I mean insulating your cab, roof, doors, firewall, in addition to spending money on components themselves. These trucks are 40 yrs old and noisy. If you are not going to do that, there's no point in getting a more expensive stereo, IMO. If you are not happy with customautosound, cut the dash and put in a more expensive unit. If you have an old factory AM radio, there is a write-up here on how to convert it so that it will play your ipod, mp3's, etc. Then you wouldn't need to cut the dash.

I installed 2 custom autosound radios, both work great and no complaints at all from the owners of the trucks

Re: Custom Autosound ?

I think it's one of those deals where it just depends how picky you are - they are more of a low end audio product, IMO. I have a retrosound in my truck and it's similar in quality. Bottom line is that if you're looking for something top notch, Custom Autosound is going to be disappointing. You need to go another route and spend the bucks. A lot of our trucks have loud exhausts and all have relatively poor acoustics; you have to do more with the system in these trucks than you would in a 5 year old car.

www.turnswitch.com

They rebuilt my factory radio with all new everything and modern internals. Looks stock, better than a CA unit, and I didn't have to cut my dash. Very pleased.

just over 4...a tad expensive, but that includes a refurb of the radio as well. Quality cost $$

Re: Custom Autosound ?

PROBLEM IS PEOPLE WANT A 300.OO UNIT FOR 150.00
and they cater to a group that wants a factory look, with factory speakers,
placement ect..
the internal amps are low compaired to most of todays units..
they are for those that have a stock radio and want a c/d player and i pod input..
not for the crowd that wants hifi sound ..
if you add an amp they are as good as any 200.oo unit
most of the problem is people expect it to sound like todays cars without adding all the sound deadner ,
just an fyi, those that hate the sound of these are the same ones that think ipods sound good, compressed music never sounds good,
remember the speakers and their surroundings have more of an impact on the sound than the radio itself
