Mini Starter a I6

I've forgot a lot of things I used to know so someone please remind me. I'm tryin to dress up the 77 or 78 250 in my truck. Do V8 and I6 starters interchange? I'd like to put one on it but don't know if I can reuse it when I swap out to a V8 later.

Dang!! Nobody? The stock one is as big as a mailbox and sounds like it came off an old tractor. The mini starter not only looks better but sounds better as well! I just don't wanna put the money into it if I cant recycle it.

Re: Mini Starter a I6

Get a newer starter from the parts store, I got one from Oreillys for my straight six and it sounds way better to me than the old one did.

Re: Mini Starter a I6

Just got one from NAPA not too long ago. I was hopin for a newer style and ended up with the same 50 lb.er. I've been researching and that I6 used a 153 tooth flywheel. IIRC, V8 starters used two bolts that bolted veritcally into the block and the I6 bolted horizontally through the bell housing into the starter. I found some at Jeg's and Summit that show 153/168 tooth. Most include both bolt hole types. I'll keep lookin.
