Need help with sloppy tranny linkage

Hopefully I can successfully post a photo...automatic transmission linkage and shift lever completely worn out so that shifting is very sloppy and not lining up with gear indicator on steering wheel column.

I can fix the bracket that goes from the shift rod to the shift lever. It just needs to be welded on and then ground down back to normal specs.

However, what do I do with the shift lever? Is it easy to remove? There is a nut just above the lever on the outside of the tranny that looks like it might have something to do with this lever. If I can take out the lever, I can weld it up like the bracket.

Any suggestions?
