What would you do?
I know there are threads asking what you did to your truck today and what did you do to your truck under $50, I've posted to them both. I'm getting ready to launch my truck again after a 13 year hiatus. Barring anything this specific truck needs I'm askin you...What did you find you needed to do to improve your truck when you first took it out? Did you find something that irritated you so much that you had to turn around and go home? Did you cruise smoothly and find out that something had to be done to a specific area because it was unbearable? I'm so ready to drive my truck but I'm still staring at it in the driveway on jackstands and I've thought it to death so I'd like to hear some real world experiences!

Dang, seems like there's always something. Right now its got an non-working radio that's bugging me, and the foam in the seat is shot.

Re: What would you do?
I found I despised the 4.10 gears and crappy exhaust system.
That was in '05.... today, I STILL hate those gears and the exhaust system. |

Re: What would you do?
Replace the ignition switch. The intermittent click click (hot or cold) is beginning to bug me. Have new high torque starter and cables, grounds all clean and shiny.

Brakes may need adjustment, belts tightened, and then the hunt for the annoying rattles and squeaks begin.

Re: What would you do?
I concentrated on safety issues first, then mechanical. Did a little bit every weekend till I thought it was good to go. After taking a ride I pulled it back in the garage and it was down for the winter getting floor supports, floors, shocks, cab bushings and springs. You have to drive it to figure out what's important to you to fix. It's gonna be whatever is annoying you that particular day. It's a hobby for me that will probably never end, until there is a for sale sign in the window.

Re: What would you do?
Get rid of the three speed on the column as the shifter had so much play and it was a mission drving it home. the second one was to add power steering.
take a look at the picture this was exactly one day after I drove it to my shop

Re: What would you do?
Yeah, mine was converted to a three speed floor shift. We all know those cheap conversions were ok at first then after your third floor shifter you wish you had a column shift back. As a boy i learned how to cuss watchin my father shift these in a small collection of 60's c10s we had. My truck is a manual steering box too and I'm not lookin forward to parkin it at Lowes or the local cruise.

Re: What would you do?
Vibration!!! I think most of it comes from worn out cab mounts and a PO purchased cheap dual exhaust that was a quick and dirty install.

Re: What would you do?
On the first drive in my first truck (70 lwb) I drove it home with my wife following me and it was uneventful...on the second drive I was picking up a couch for my brother and sister in law with him in the truck. Seats were loose so we tipped over going around corners....and the cheap aftermarket throttle cable snapped off in my neighborhood when we were almost home.
