Need help with lifting truck
Alright guys i have a 82 half ton and im been having a hard time of what lift to do i was going to do a 7 inch lift but since i dont have the money i just want enough for what im paying.Im choosing to do a 4 inch lift as its mostly cheap due to spring work mostly and i dont have to deal with extensions of shafts joints etc etc bull.I would like to do atleast a 6 inch but i would imagine it would be way more work then i need right now.Im new to this and this is my first truck and i dont have much money like 200 tops.I would like to build this my self i have plenty of freinds with rigs around here.I just want to buy the springs and be done with it.
Since im probably going with a 4 inch i dont know what coil springs to use the ones already on are sagging and are stock my 31 inch tires supprisingly clear preety good tho.People are telling me to put spacers in the springs to lift it heigher and its cheaper that way but im not a fan of those.I would just like to get new.I also dont know what kind of leaf springs to get or what vehicles to pull them off.I already have shocks. When this is done im going to sell my 31 inch tires and get some 35s toyos and wrap them around some 15 inch rims. HELP ME OUT GUYS!

Re: Need help with lifting truck
Presuming your still talking 2wd, 56" Suburban springs in the rear and Crewcab front spring will get you high enough for 33"s without cutting the fenders. Your not going to get much higher than that in your price range. To get the 4" of lift in the front look here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=447061
Here is 33"s on a 2wd.

Re: Need help with lifting truck
Do a rear shackle flip to get close to four inches.

Re: Need help with lifting truck
You can get rear four inch leaf springs if you want it to ride like a tank and have no flex. Or go with blocks and get stupid axle wrap. Or go with a simple shackle flip, have a decent ride and better flex than lift springs. No clue on front coils.

Re: Need help with lifting truck
You can only go so high on the front with coils.. your upper control arms will bottom out on the upper coil spring bucket. The best front set up is to adapt 88-98 lift spindles to your truck. Not all that hard and was done fairly recently by a member if I remember correctly.
As mentioned a 4" rear shackle flip will be your best bet. 7" of lift can be done like this... Front: 3" lift coils & 4" lift spindles Rear: 4" shackle flip and 3-4" lift leaf springs. Any coil lift in the front will decrease the down travel of the suspension, though you will get lift you will not gain any suspension performance. To actually gain travel the front suspension would have to be custom, with longer control arms and coil-overs..at least.

Re: Need help with lifting truck
Here is a write up where a member installed the 88-98 lift spindles.

Prerunner, I give up on him, he just keeps asking hoping we'll come up with a different answer.

Re: Need help with lifting truck
I wouldn't call VegasBruce a hater.... I am gonna go on a limb here and say the picture of the 2wd stepside on 33"s...is his.
You say there are so many haters, yet you even said a lifted 2wd is stupid. (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=463855 post #9) You are going to have people that don't agree with what you are wanting to do. That's life. There are people that think bagging a truck is lame, or putting 44"+ boggers on a truck is stupid... or.... whatever, there are going to be people that give you crap about it. You say you are trying to learn things... if you are wanting to lift your 2wd all the information you need has already been put out there, you just have to weed through a bit of BS. You aren't going to get anything different by re-posting the same question over and over, except that you may not get any responses in the future. To answer your question with only the $200 budget you mentioned you are looking at coil spacers and a rear add-a-leaf and running 32-33" tires. That is of course if you already have the tires or can get them for free, otherwise your $200 budget is only going to get you 2 tires.... and no lift.

Re: Need help with lifting truck
Thanks Prerunner. I'm going to stay out of these threads. I'm not going to rise to the bait. As you say I already have my truck set up how I want, and its been that way since '84. I don't care how he builds his truck.

Re: Need help with lifting truck
The definition of insanity is repeating the same actions over and over (in this case asking the same question) and expecting a different outcome (answer). Haha. Good luck with whatever direction you choose. A shackle flip is free if you have a cutting torch or plasma and some scrap steel and a welder to brace the hanger.
If you truly are going to convert to 4wd in the very near future, save the effort and money and put it toward the axle, springs, steering components, etc... The real simple way would be to one link it front/rear then go with coils, coilovers or air shocks. Posted via Mobile Device
