Truckin throwdown

Friday, may 27th. it's here boys and girls, the most hardcore performance test in the truckin world. Trucks will compete in several events, including Giant Slalom, Drag race, Speed-Stop, AutoCross, and this year, adding a 2.2 mile road coarse. this event is put on by Trucking magazine with the help of many sponsors, and it is AWSOME!!!! Our Silver-Bullit '55 F-100 is still apart and we are in full thrash mode to make the event, we WILL be there. Oiling issues at Del-Mar caused us to tear her down If you are a competitor this year, post up some info and picts. The more we hype it up, the better the chances are of helping to grow this event. Truckin' did a first-class job last year, and we were glad to be invited back again. I'm sure it will be a blast.

Re: Truckin throwdown

I have always liked that issue....

I was a little surprised by how slow some of the trucks were at the drag strip with the amount of HP they stated.

Didn't you guys win it last year?

Rob Phillips of PCH rods won last year. Rob has the black/copper 69 C-10. If you can't remember what the truck looks like, check out a Hotchicks advertisement.

I'm looking forward to seeing the results from this year.

Re: Truckin throwdown

Yes, Rob Phillips was last years winner. We were neck and neck, and the last event was the brake test, and our failing master wasn't up to the task. His truck stopped from 60mph in something like 93 feet! a number that would out brake a vette! This is realy a full days torture test, and just surviving is a victory for any performance truck.

Re: Truckin throwdown

Puting the motor back in today. Re-working the cooling hoses also. Seams to be a clutch issue. Had to pull the motor in & out 3 times to get the clutch-throwout bearing-pedal to feel & fit just right. Long ways to go. Hope to fire it up today.

Re: Truckin throwdown

Good News. Motor is in, seems to run good, but no time for dyno tuning. No leaks! Now all we have to do is put all the sheet metal back on, align, scale & tune. Hey, we got all day, and all night.

Re: Truckin throwdown

We Made It What a day. 12 bad a$$ trucks, 5 events and one winner! A great day. Hats off to Truckin Magazine for stepping up, they put on a first class event. Breakfast, coffee and fresh orange juice, T-shirts for everyone, and a great lunch. The events went as follows. 1. 600 ft slollum, 2. 1/4 mile drag race, 3. 600 ft speed-stop, 4. 1 mile short coarse, 5. short coarse with pro driver. The short coarse layout used is the same one used on the show "Battle of the Supercars".
Here's some notable quotes of the day. "It's Ok, Bob C. is ninja-quick", "so, Vortec blown Hemi Cherokee's ARE FAST", "I guess old trucks handle better than new trucks", "Dude, you should just go buy your own pink hat", "a good burnout will take care of those flat spots", "She went HOW FAST?", " It's AROUND the cones, not OVER them!", "I don't think thats a good noise", "you can't heel/toe in that thing, but you can knee/toe it" and the ever popular - "I really thought I could pull that off".
NO, I can't tell you who won. I hope you checked out our facebook page for picts, videos and updates. Be sure to get Truckin Magazine to see the results.

Re: Truckin throwdown

Thanks for all the input. In a comparison to the ringer (pro driver) he took 5 seconds off of my best lap on the road coarse. I can honestly say that I learned more about driving in three minutes than I have in the last three years. (he only took three laps, laughing all the way, and shocked at the trucks ability) The good news for all is that the level of competition was up a notch or two from last year. And, I expect next years group will be really fast. The good news is that the interest level in real performance drivers is growing, and that means more parts and better prices for everybody. Ain't capitalism great? Be sure to give this issue a full read, and subscibe, there will be lots of real usable tech to come.

Re: Truckin throwdown

Thanks for the info, Rob. I will pick up the mag today.

I recall seeing Nate's C4 dropmember (forever ago it seems) and thinking what a crazy awesome idea that was. A truck that could use REAL performance parts. Now that the idea isn't so crazy, the evolution of REAL performance TRUCK parts by vendors on THIS SITE is amazing.

Keep up the good work!
