my dumb mistake-Please help!!!

I had my power steering lines hanging down (zip-ties up out of the way) as I have been waiting for my power steering gear. Once every couple of days I strt the struck to keep its bloof flowing (Pump is empty without a belt on it). On of the ties must have come loose because it wrapped around the fan and bent it into a curl. The metal part. This is a 76 pump with SAE fittings and my PS gear on order is a 76. The one I bent is the one with the smaller end fitting.

Is this the return line? The parts stores sell one the you cut to fit and use hose clamps? Is this ok to do?

Re: my dumb mistake-lease help!!!

ok, i looked closer and the metal tube is bent at a new place to about half capacity. I think it is the return, would it still work or should i just buy the universal one?

Usually the return line has clamps on it. Mine does. Comes off the side of the pump that has the metal tube. If it's all twisted up, I wouldn't use it. It may allow fluid through, but there could be stress cracks that could cause leaks or a major breakage.

You could try a salvage yard (take your old line) and try to match it up. They usually have a rack with p.s. hoses or old trucks you can take one from.

btw: What is "bloof?"
