I say go to your local autozone type store and purchase the cheapest replacements shocks. You'll pay about 25 a piece, no waiting on delivery and they'll do what every other shock does on stock suspension.

I second this suggestion. I'm in this process right now, looking for gas shocks as well. Every shop or mechanic says, "get oem replacements or equivalents..." They all do the same basic job if you're not looking for a performance upgrade.
