Question External Voltage Regulator to Internal

I just Installed a new alternator on my truck and had to change the plug for an internally regulated alternator, so I was wondering if i wired it up correctly.

The White wire on the plug is connected to the blue wire originally in the harness.
The Red wire on the plug is a jumper from the main power on the back of the alternator.
So the black, and white wire that went to the alternator originally is useless(thats the part im not sure about.

Then on the old voltage regular plug, connect the Blue and Brown wires.

Have I done this right, thanks in advance guys.

If it doesn't look like your wiring, shout it out
and someone will send you to the electrical gurus.

Re: External Voltage Regulator to Internal

The way you have it wired will work but if you want to get the most efficient system don't just jump the # 2 wire to the back of the alt. instead run it to the regulator plug and connect it to the red wire. What this does is it allows the alternator to sense voltage remotely instead of at the back of the alt. This is important because that red wire is connected to the main alternator buss that feeds the cab and battery and is where you will have the biggest voltage drop. Here is a diagram below how I like to jump the wires, the colors don't matter whats important is that the red wire goes to # 2 and the brown wire to # 1 terminals.

Re: External Voltage Regulator to Internal

So all i need to do is connect the jumper wire to the red wire on the voltage regulator instead?
