Steering column bearings

OK guys I need some info and help WHERE can I get the bearings for a stock steering column or a rebuild kit I asked at my local O'reallys and they said I would have to go to a chevy dealer ???? I looked at LMC and no such critter so if anyone knows where I can get the stuff to fix my column I would be very grateful for the info its a 71 K20 4speed its a straight plain column.

the bottom bearing went out and the top one has got play in it

Re: Steering column bearings

I just got my top one from LMC. The reson I got one was because I thought it had too much play. The new one has just as much.

Re: Steering column bearings

hello 1972 redneck, i had the same problem as you, bought one from LMC, same problem. After the guys and i looked at it for a few hours we found out what the play in the steering wheel shaft was. when i switched out to a 1990's s-10 steering wheel i also used a 1994 cancellation cam as well. our 67-72 cacellation cams are bevelled on the bottom and the 94's cam is flstraight flushed at the bottom. put my old cam on and no play. it is amazing how something so small can make you crazy....Russ

The shaft is supposed to float inside the lower brg. Then the spring takes up any slack. After time the shaft gets stuck in the sleeve & thats when you get looseness when you change anything. The lower brg is in a horrible invironment.
