Put my new engine into the chassis, bolted it up, yadda yadda yadda. went under the trcuk to look mfor a wrench, and ive got a freaking transmission leak. it seems to be coming from the rear section of the tranny, almost by the speedo cable. any suggestions what could hvae happended, or what my be leaking. thanx. oh yeah, its a th350

did you remove the driveline?.....if so it probably leaked out the end of the tail shaft

no, i never touched the driveline, or the transmission really. only unbolted the bellhousing, tourque converter and blocked the tranny up. that was all. is there a seal or something in the back of that tranny that will let it leak?

You said it was by the speedo cable. It could be the bullet leaking. The bullet is the thing that the cable screws onto. There is a seal in it for the speedo gear. They leak pretty often.

Repair is way simple, the bullet is held in the trans by one bolt. But the secret is, replace the bullet with a steel one. Lots of the TH350 had aluminum bullets which wear pretty badly. Go to a good trans shop or GM dealer and get a steel bullet. Should cost less than $10. Fix is less than 5 minutes, including washing your hands afterward.

If you had the front of the trans held higher than normal position, you will get a leak at the speedo cable. There should be an o-ring around the adaptor,but they will leak when old. Also puts more fluid at the shaft seal, which may leak due to age also. See if it still leaks now that it's back in normal position.
