Rear Bumper brackets- 65' Chevy C10

Stupid question, but I gotta ask. Do the Rear bumper Brackets mount on the inside or the outside of the frame? The reason I ask is that the previous owner welded a cross member to the frame to hold up the gas tank and did not reattach rear bumper if he had one. Thus eliminating the possibility of using "factory" brackets if it is mounted on the inside of the frame.

Thanks in advance for your input.

One inside, one outside IIRC.

Thanks 64Fleetside. I appreciate it.

I am hoping that the bumper will hold with just the outside brackets. I have to mount bumper since it is the law here and we need to get safety inspection done every year. Kinda sucks.

Outside brackets alone won't be enough. They only mount to the frame with 1 bolt which would let the bumper swing down.

You could get the earlier brackets for 60-62. They are heavy flat bar and can be mounted on the outside of the frame if you need to. I screwed up and ordered the wrong year...... You do have to add an extension to the outer bracket, because the bolt hole on the bumper is about 2" further out. This is easy if you can weld.

wildearp,
thanks for the input. I was just wondering about using brackets from another year. A flat bar would work. do the holes line up on the bumper or would I have to bend the bracket?
