Need help looking for a compressor

well, since i moved into my new house i been trying to get situated. the old compressor stayed at the in laws, so now i need a new one. i dont have a shop or anything, just for personal use to finish up my truck. spraying primer, running impact gun, air sanders, etc. nobody else would use it but me. just trying to figure out what compressor i can go with to cover this stuff. im not looking to get a big 80 gal one, just something that will be just good enough for what i need.

was looking at these 2 from home depot..

or one off craigslist...used doesnt really matter to me. as long as its dependable and can keep up. im trying to stay in the price range above...

you want to look for the most CFM you can afford ... horsepower ratings are useless on compressors.

Agreed. Quite a few companies exaggerate the HP claims.
To run all the air tools without issues and waiting, you will have to pony up more dough.

Check out www.gregsmithequipment.com as they have a nice selection of both single stage and dual stage. I just purchased their AF8 dual stage machine a couple of days ago and so far, it seems to be waaaaaay more machine than I need which is a good thing. Leaves room for growth down the road.

No matter how much compressor you get, you'll soon wish you bought a bigger one.

Mine's the VT-735-80 in the pic and guess what? Yep, I wish it had more capacity.

What are you doing with yours that an 80 gal tank and 17+cfm at 175 won't keep up with??
I can't get mine to run out of air. Even with continuos use of my blast cabinet the machine will cycle and shut off for a period of time

Gotta say, those atlas comps look like quite a deal...
Do you know if that brand exclusive to Greg Smith Equipment?

Also, were the shipping prices pretty reasonable?

I'm in the market for a larger compressor, and the AF7 looks like quite a steal, but i'm worried, the shipping may make it not as good of a deal, compared to an IR or Quincy i could pick up down the street, at Northen Tool...

i ended up going with a cambell hausfield 60 gal one from lowes. i dont use this thing all that much..and for about $375 i thought it was worth a shot!

Brak, I'm not sure what the shipping would be as I picked it up at their Delaware location with a small trailer. It weighs close to 600lbs so removal from the trailer was quite fun. We used my engine hoist and slung it out and in to position in the corner of the garage.
As for the availability of Atlas brand elsewhere, I'm not really sure. I priced this unit against what Harbor freight, northern tool, Lowes, Home depot and Tractor supply had to offer and this seemed like the clear cut winner to me. It is the cheapest 2 stage machine I could find capable of producing over 15cfm @ 175psi.
So far, I have been nothing but impressed with it and I use it every day for everything from 1/2" impact guns to spray gun to blast cabinet, etc.
I highly recommend this unit and hope you have as much good luck as I have had with my purchase regardless of your final choice.
