Ok I went to change my front half moons on my drum brakes only to find that they were in good condition. My brakes haven't been working well and I thought that maybe it was because the pads were worn out and needed changed. I mean I have to push the brake pedal to the floor and even then it still doesn't engage at all, but some how I manage to stop its just slow stop. Anyway, I found out that the front drums were not engaging at all and the back drums were some but not enough to stop well without having to smash the pedal down to the floor and creep to a stop. Does anybody have any input as to what may be the problem? It would be greatly appreciated bc stopping is a key factor in driving! lol

Also my emergency break isn't work either. It won't press down and engage at all. This all is pretty frustrating so any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks guys,

This is what I learned from my first brake job on my 67 C-20. You need to turn the adjustment screws until tight ( you can not turn the drum ) then back them off until you can just turn the drums. You should get a good firm peddle and lots of brake.

x2. On adjustment screws. You can also adjust the parking brake cable after doing the screws. And then I'd bleed the brakes again also. Hope some of this works for you. Jim

when you say adjust theparking brake do you men underneath where it splits to both back brakes? I've tried that and loosened it up pretty much all the way and my PB is still stiff and won't work.

i've found lubricating moving parts makes them work better as far as your parking brake goes// the ratchet in the cab and the able coming out of the backing plate in the rear are the two main areas that should b lubricated and moving easily

like others have said try bleeding all 4 corners of the brake system// also adjust out the shoes so there is very slight dragg on the drums

Yes, thats what I meant. I've never tried lubricating the cable, but that sounds like something smart to do. Especially seeing how rusty some of these trucks can be. It sounds like your cable or handle might be bound up if you've loosened the cable and the handle is still stiff. Jim.
