Cool oil breather

How often should a completely stainless steel oil breather be changed? Can it be cleaned, because mine has dried gritty oil around the holes. Thanks.

Re: oil breather

It depends on how quickly it gets caked up (due to the condition of the engine, blow-by, frequency of oil change, etc). I would check it at every oil change.

Certainly clean it anytime that it looks dirty. I would recommend just using kerosene or mineral spirits. Let it dry completely before placing it back on the motor.
