I have a '96 Tahoe that has the same type of sound, but I have only noticed it when I am at cruising speed and let off the gas. It seems to happen almost every time I have the cruise control on at 60+ mph and hit the brakes. It sounds just like a single drum beat below the Tahoe. I often pull a trailer with it, and it seems worse while pulling it. Let us know what you find out.
