Helper bag kit

Hey guys, need a little help. I'm looking at putting in some help bags just so I have extra support when pulling our boat. I've seen a number of posts with guys doing the same.

I know they don't make a specific kit for the 72, but what kits are you using? I contacted Jegs and they said they don't have a kit.

If you have a specific part number, that would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

I don't know if you have trailing arms or leaf springs but I put the Air Lift Kit on mine with leaf springs http://www.autoanything.com/suspensi...0A2406009.aspx

Re: Helper bag kit

I have a set that I took out of a 67 leaf sprung burb.
Don't know who made them, but they don't look at old.

So, they are out there.

Did you look at the Air Lift 1000 in the link I posted above. It fits open coils and is only $90

Just swap bags in place for the rear coils. Leave them @ 30-40psi unloaded & add some air via a simple schrader valve set-up when you plan to load it down. You would be purchasing 2 bags regardless right?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

If you go this route you may want to consider adding a rear anti sway bar.

Not really a 'must have' but sure won't hurt. The bags won't be any worse than coils; they'll just allow for height/capacity adjustability where coils won't.

Re: Helper bag kit

Actually, we like the truck just the way it is. If we decide to do a frame off restore or go more custom, then I would concider just going bags in all corners.

But really, we're just looking for something to help make it a little safer when going down the road to the boat launch. Plus the helper bags seem pretty easy to install and just use when needed.

Thanks for the link.

It's your truck & your decision..... Air bags in place of coils aren't strictly for the 'custom' crowd. They were intended for hauling cargo while providing a better ride quality.

'Helper' bags for coil applications go inside of the coils meaning you would remove the coils for the installation unless your going to do some sort of 'custom' set-up. If you're removing the coils anyway, just bolting in an air-spring that replaces the coil is easier. Regardless of which way you go, you still have to route air to the bag to be functional so that's a wash.

Re: Helper bag kit

I've seen them also. If I was going to spend the $250, I would just go with swapping out the coils for bags.

Like I said, we like the stance the way it is. Just looking for something to stiffen up the back end. At $85, the helper bags seem the best route.

Re: Helper bag kit

Description from the AirLift 1000 front kit posted:

•The perfect helping-hand for your open coil springs, giving you up to 1,000 lbs of leveling capacity
•Fine-tune the level of dampening for the right mix of load support and ride quality
•Tough polyurethane construction is custom-molded to fit your springs
Made just for open coil spring suspensions

The text states these are for open coils & that they can be used front & rear. But, the rear coils in this application are not 'open'; they're pigtailed (closed) on both ends. Do they make something similar that works w/the closed type coils?

I love mine.

I ran the air lines back to the bumper and made them the tag bolts!
Oh man it made a differance in the ride. No more bouncing when I go over small humps in the road.
Man I need to move those shock's one of these days.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
