Can i have side molding too?

Hello everyone,

I purchased a 62 GMC with the big block V6 lastnight that once belonged to my great grandfather, then my uncle both of which have passed away. So the tear down starts tonight, and im wanting to do a full frame up resto, but with a few touches.

The biggest thing im wondering about is side molding and cab trim. As far as i can tell, this truck never had molding on it before. Ive been searching all day and im guessing my only 2 options are either to drill holes to mount them, or use 3M double sided tape? Im looking at getting Fleetside side molding from LMC. What do you guys think?

Also for the cab trim, did any GMCs come with this from the factory? Just so i know which will match the best, instead of getting the chevy ones.

The look im going for is something very close to how user Nailz has.

Im sorry for the noob questions, and ill get some pictures tonight!

I always wondered if that side trim was the same as chevy minus the lower trim. Anyone know?

Re: Can i have side molding too?

have heard of people using newer trim/emblem adhesive that comes in a caulking gun on custom cars...dont know the product name... may be another option for you if you do some research....and a buddy of mine used 3m automotive double sided trim tape on a cutlass worked well ,but sold car dont know how well it holds up. just food for thought.

yep, same.

all you need to do is buy a repro set of chevy (gmc ) upper, drill holes and buy a clip set.

the cab trim will be a little harder , as pictured, it is gmc only, and is not reproduced.

Welcome, lets see some pics. I also have a 62 GMC. For cab trim you have to look in junk yards and ebay.

So if i was to get the upper and lower side trims, it should work on my 62?

skip the lower, that is for chevy only.

the way I put trim on my 63 truck was that I already had a fender w/ trim on it... just matched it up and drilled some holes...

someone on the board should be able to provide some measurements for you....for the trim holes

Re: Can i have side molding too?

It all depends on what your plans for the truck are. If your going original then just the top trim, but if not you can change the tailgate and take the GMC off the grill. I know I'm going to piss off some people but I'm just saying Its your truck have fun with it.

there is a 65 gmc around here that has the chevy style trim on the side... the way the truck looks _unrestored_ I would almost swear that it was original... but it is most likely added... does have all the custom gmc stuff though..grille, bumper, windshield trim...

Re: Can i have side molding too?

some definitions might be getting confused.. when I was referring to lower trim it was the smaller paint divider trim that chevrolet used

so to clear up.. upper cab trim
...upper side trim
and ...lower side trim..(chevy only)

Re: Can i have side molding too?

A little update, a local bodyshop guy brought some goodies lastnight. Guess a few years ago he had restored a 62 GMC, and had a few parts laying around still.

He have me the rails under the bed, the rails that go between the wood in the bed, and the front panel of the bed!!

When i asked him how much i owed him, he just said if he needs a favor he will call
