wal-mart (hear me out here) is selling a motorized flip up touch screen deck. its like 300 up here so i'll bet probly 250 down there. i was playing with it in the store and it seems pretty well built. I think it was a pioneer unit. but I'm not sure.

Re: Need Ideas for new deck..What are you using

I just recently bought one of these and really like it. Bought it mostly for Ipod/USB input. Also has 4 volt preamp outs. The only thing I don't like is the presets. You have to press a button on the deck and scroll through the list or punch a number on the remote and then hit enter. There aren't preset buttons on the deck. I'll post pics if I get a chance tonight.

Re: Need Ideas for new deck..What are you using

I can't say anything about what looks good, but I liked my Kenwood Excelon KDC-X994 so much in my daily drive S10, I bought the same one for my Blazer. It's similar to the one posted earlier, and yes, presets for radio stations are a pain, but I actually never listen to the radio, just my ipod or a cd. I really like the ipod controls on it as well as all the abilities to tune the sound stage.

I bought the deck from Crutchfield and it came with an install kit. Not my favorite, but it was free. It has a spot for an equalizer below the deck that just has a cap that fits over it. You can get other install kits with a little pocket beneath the deck that I think looks better. I'll snap a pic.

Cruthfield did say that I would have to cut a support out in the dash for the deck to fit, but it slid in just fine with no mods.

I have an older deck (head unit) made before ipods
and I use the rca inputs.. the cable hanging off the front of the deck gets in your way and also can break the front panel circuit board..
even if I had a newer unit I'd hook my ipod to the deck this way. the cable is cheap (I got 2 for 12 bucks shipped.. one for truck one for home)

Re: Need Ideas for new deck..What are you using

IMO, I don't like the front loading USBs, but only because I don't care for a cord or anything to be hanging out of the front of the deck. The X994 I posted has a usb in the back, but it's cord that you can route somewhere else, and I have mine routed to the ashtray so I can hide either a flash drive or my ipod while it's plugged in.
