91 S10 rearend swap
what rearend are people using in S10 for drag racing? the truck has a 7.5 10bolt, is it strong enough for the strip or will it just rip it self apart? also its not a posi and would like to make it one.

Re: 91 S10 rearend swap
You can eithor grab a S10 8.5 10-bolt, or grab a ford 9 inch rearend.

Re: 91 S10 rearend swap
How can you tell the differance between the two rearends? the 8.5 and the 7.5?

Instead of the two points at the bottom of the Differential, you will have "squared off" tabs

Re: 91 S10 rearend swap
how are the ford 8.8 for strength? i found a complete rear end with 4.10 ratio and disks brakes for 1000 is that a good price? and its already sized up for an S-10.

Re: 91 S10 rearend swap
The 8.8 will go in if you narrow the long side 3 inches and run 2 short side axles . I think ( dont quote me ) it comes out like 56 inches and the stocker is 54.5 . You'll need a bigger offset to make it work .
Personally , i would build a 9" . You can buy 33 spline axle and spool package from moser and use a stock case if your on a budget , but i suggest going 35 spline as the axles are basically the same price .

Re: 91 S10 rearend swap
You can run 35 in a stock case you just have to have the right spool. Mark William was the only one that would work 20 years ago but i'm sure there are others now.

Re: 91 S10 rearend swap
go to the junk yard with a measuring tape, after you've measured the s-10 spring mounts..
fyi.. exployer and rangers that have 8.8 rear ends , fall in. and the 8.8 is as strong as a 12 bolt (almost a copy really) |

How fast are you trying to go? 2) P.S. i think Moser and others offer complete bolt in 12 bolts for the s-10 but that's big money (2K). i think you can get more use out of a 7.5 10 bolt than what is commonly thought. |

Re: 91 S10 rearend swap
For some reason the pinion is way offset in the explorer 8.8's I would not run it the way it comes in a performance application.

Re: 91 S10 rearend swap
this ^^^ if you're goin to the trouble to fab in a different rear end. make it worth your trouble if you can find a direct bolt 8.5 for cheap then that wouldn't be bad if you're just building a moderate performer |
