R-134A charge port fix in a pinch - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

If you have a leaking valve core in the liquid or suction sides of your a/c system with the R134A system, A quick fix to keep from losing the refrigerant is to use a 5/16-24 x1/4 allen set screw with some teflon tape. The plastic caps are ok if the seal is still good , but more often than not the threads are either stripped or the seal is split. I did this on my truck and it worked like a charm. I just wish i wasn't thinking in terms of a refrigerator when i charged it. Now i have a coil temp of 26f and a discharge temp at the vent of 30f . I'm driving a meat locker! Just thought I'd share something that worked well for me.

What pressures are you running? I can't get mine past 68 at the vent. Though it's 100+ here!! Everthing is top notch. I even upgraded the fan for more air.

service valves are cheap, so are caps. replacing your compressor,condensor, and accumulator along with flushing lines is not. at 26* evap temp it will happen soon.

Right now I am running at about 60 psig on the suction pressure. That was at an ambient of about 105. That is giving me a coil temp of 33 right now. The 26 was wrong. My gauges were out of calibration as were the batteries on my thermometer almost dead from the heat around here. For the guy who was stating the "cheap valve cores" thing. Thats all fine and good when you can take them out. Mine are crimped in. i have to replace the accumulator and the liquid line hose to replace the cores. This is why i had to use the set screws. This repair was meant for those who don't want to lose what charge they have left in the system and don't have a cap on hand.

you do not have to replace the lines the one in the accumtor screws out and the one ont eh liquid line also screws out and can be replaced i'll get you the part number for the high side valve tomorrow i keep them instock at work

Factory air part number is 59946 for highside and 59346 for low side
