If so what is your opinion and which brand did you get?

harbor freight 20 gallon. It works fine. The main thing is the fluid you use in it. In my experience the "green" cleaners just don't work as well as the mineral spirits normally used. I got mineral spirits at a farm/fleet store for around $40 for a 5 gallon pail.

Harbor Freight has all kinds of low cost Chinese tools that work well. Not the hand tools, but all the shop goodies like the wash tanks, engine stands and hoists and stuff.

I have a 20 gallon parts washer I bought at Tractor Supply Company for $90 on sale. It is probably identical to the Harbor Freight one. It works well. The two five gallon pails of cleaner cost almost as much as the washer. For years prior, I used kerosene. It worked well but was smelly and flamable.

I too have a H.F. unit only my pump died shortly after switching to actual solvent. I first tried their water based cleaner, pffft, what a joke! Might as well fill it with Windex, would work alot better!

I just use mine the manual way without the pump. Not worth bothering with.

then my nephew grew up and joined the army so no more parts washer

I have the HF 20 gal one also. I use purple power for most cleanups. For stubborn grease I use por15's marine clean. Neither seem to be having any ill effects on the pump after 5+ years.

HF works well , just don`t expect the pump to last. If they sold replacement pumps, these would be excellent for home use.

I have a Clarke one from Tractor Supply (Clarke is now out of business) Never actually used it since I never found a good cleaner to use with it, and it since got buried under stuff. Would like to hear recommendations on a good all-purpose cleaner though, as I will be digging it out in july when I reorganize the garage.

In my experience...
1. Generally, pumps cost as much as the whole unit.
2. If you can get concentrated bilge cleaner (used on industrial boats),
it works awesome!
3. A big tray with mineral spirits and a brush work fine. Don't smoke.
4. Don't use gasoline.
I do not have a parts cleaner at my house

but have used
#2 & #3 at my hobby garage.

I have a 20 gal from Northern tool ,been working for the last 3 years with almost every day . The only problem after I filled it up found a pin hole in the tank , good thing for the drain on the bottom.

A qt of this makes 96 gallons so I may splurge and try it.

OK I wouldn't recommend the bilge cleaner I posted the link to above. Not real impressed with the results, so I'll be replacing it as soon as I find some solvent.

Well mine isn't from Harbor freight. I bought mine when Homier truck tool sale was in town. BUT it is the same one Harbor freight sells just a different color. Mine has been doing me fine. I went to Lowes and bought couple 5 gallon pales of mineral spirits. Does great. My pump as been fine so far.
