2WD to 4WD?

I have a 2wd 84 GMC, and I was wondering how hard it is to convert them to 4wd? everyone I know says to just find a 4x4 truck, but this truck was built by my bro and I love it to death so I want to keep it, but I already have 2 trucks and I don't need another one, so buying a 4x4 is out of the question.

This. Ironically though, probably the easiest and cheapest way to do this conversion is to just buy a 4x4 donor truck. So in a sense, you're still gonna end up buying another truck.
