Any 60-63 trucks with 8-12 point cages?
So my truck is finally going in for the cage. It is getting a 10-point chrome alloy cage and a c-notch. I am very curious to see how others have done the A-pillar bars. Questions I have..
Did you retain the stock dash? Was the windshield removed? How about the back. Did you X the rear bars or did you do a halo instead? Guessing it would be easiest to do the X. How is visability out the back window? Is it a small window or big window? The chassis guy and I were talking about it a little today and we think that the wrap around windshield might cause a little headache getting the front bars in. I'm tempted to tell him to cut the dash out and put an alum dash and culum in. But not sure that is needed. If you have pics, I would love to see them. Thanks in advance.

Don't cut the stock dash out. I would try to keep it in there at all cost. I still have the stock dash in my 67. You might want to look at my build thread and see how my cage is done. Some of the stock suspension classes you might want to run require the stock dash. My truck even still has a piece of the stock frame intact through the C Notch.

Mine wouldn't help because the moron that built mine didn't think it would ever go fast enough to need a cage. Boy did I underestimate the faster faster faster affliction!!!
Make sure you get us plenty of picture because I know I'm not the olly one wanting to see what you do for outriggers off the rame. Also keep in mind Regans cage..... find that thread because it surprised me what is 'required' and not.

Found this link that talks about the requirements some. Good reading about cages.

Yeah, I second not cutting your dash out. I know the 60-63s present a little more of a challenge with the front down bars, but I would definitely keep the factory dash in place, IMO.

Re: Any 60-63 trucks with 8-12 point cages?
So Joe and I talked quite a bit today (when the truck was in front of him). We both agreed that keeping the stock dash won't be a problem. Even cutting a hole in the dash really isn't needed in a 60-63 cab. It looks like we can run the downward A-pillar bar with out a hole in the dash.
The biggest issue appears to be the bracing in the bottom rear of the car where the outriggers need to go. Next would be the bars going through the firewall to the front of the frame. I will provide lots of pics.. If any of you have seen pics of my Camaro, you know Joe does awesome work. He also knows one of the local NHRA tech guys pretty well so I am sure he will be on top of everything. Keep your eyes open.. I really should build a build thread like others.

Re: Any 60-63 trucks with 8-12 point cages?
Heres what I did, I never had it teched. The tube lands right behind the stock cab outrigger, I just boxed in the stock outrigger, and welded it to the frame (originally only had rivets i think). Not really the best placement, if i had a left foot (i don't) it would be stuck on it constantly. i know this from watching my friends get in and out of it. in hindsight i'd bore a hole in the dash. then your dash bar wouldn't be a knee-caper (notice there isn't one in mine)
I built mine as a street machine. If i ever take it to the strip, it will be a Friday night open practice kinda deal. I can add a few bars and make it legal. but i didn't want to put holes in the cab (above the boxsides). Also, I wanted to make it somewhat easy to get in and out of being i'm 6'4" 250lbs and a amputee. Back window sucks, but maybe that's because i have to hold my transbrake button to back up (on the shifter) don't know if I was any help, but i posted anyways |

Any chance you have the time/energy to give me more pics? Would love to see as much of the connecting points, main hoop, door bars, anything you can give me. Thanks in advance.
