On second thought, my plane-jane '66 has em, and they look fine. Maybe the differences in paint (mettallic vs opaque), and bumper color (silver vs white) help it out. ...and then there is the chrome license frame too... ?

There is no doubt that they will look great and correct at the same time....
But by looking at your paint job.....I consider it a bit of a risk to vent those rear....straight....already painted corners.
There are ways to "cold cut" painted panels, but the risks are also to be considered...
Such as...but not limited to Scorched paint, lifted edges, slip & scrape, measure once/cut twice and so on .....and so forth........ and so not funny.......and whatever.

A sheetmetal hole saw, variable speed drill+oil should make quick work of the holes w/no paint burn, plus the hole cut is smaller than OD of the bezels.

DARN IT! I had myself talked into putting them on a shelve untill i seen your post (truck). that trucks so nice and i agree the color and most of all the bumper does add good looks to it.

im thinking finding a bumper like yours and installing the 1965 "option b.u. lights..."

Oh Man, would I be scared to death to make that cut.
Paint can easily chip outside the intended cut.

I might have made it sound like I'm a wiener without a clue or a pair of juevos...
But here's the "whole thing of it"...as some would say.

It aint rocket surgery.
But anyone who has ever tore into a nice paint job for a "simple mod." knows how quickly $hit can go south on ya.
As simple as that seems....and as many ways as there are to skin a cat....if I was installing those for a customer on paint that nice....I would charge at least $500....maybe $600...(or more)
It should be a two hour job....maybe three including the switch, wiring and the "easy cut".....not a bad paycheck for a few hours.

I was only a cocky 25 year old when I quoted $75 to drill and install the 427 emblems on the hood of a customers '67 black Corvette roadster with fresh paint. Well......I spent the next three days repainting, cut & buffing, remeasuring and reinstalling the emblems........

I'm an old guy now.....but I'm still a bit gun-shy on some stuff I guess......

I would definitely install them. They really dress up the rear of these trucks. Just my 2 cents, LOL.

lay masking tape over the intended cut area, wen removing tape pull tape towards cut area...

These were factory as well as dealer installed accessories going back into the 50's. Not the same part mind you but an optional accessory. Factory had the green reverse wire incorporated in the harness in a single plug through the firewall along with the wireing for the tailights and turn signals. Dealer installed had an additional hole drilled above the tailight wireing harness and you had old style tie wraps to attach to the wireing harness that was clipped to the frame.

3 speed and powerglides used a control switch mounted to the steering columb just above the pedals in the small rectangular opening with two screws into the accompaning holes. This switch is readaly available as it was shared by the passenger car line.

The four speed switch had you remove the conical shifter arm lock at the top of the transmission tower and replaced with a new modified lock that had an appendedge
to which a very hard to find switch was then attached too. This switch was simply wired with two wires power in and out.
You had to remove the shifter knob and install a " finger " that locked in place with an Allen screw that made contact with the switch when the transmission was placed into reverse. Hokey but worked very well and was also an indicator of how loose your shifter ball was.

These reverse lights seem to have also been installed on earlier Buicks ( of which I have no part #s to confirm ) and also the Gruman Aluminum Vans P10-20-30 up into the seventies.

As to my opinion on adding accessories to your truck, I'm very biased!

I would , if anything , only use one , if that ... because I cant see messing up such a nice paint job ... Now me on the other hand , I have a provision on the drivers side for a back up light , but I have no light .....You have 2 so if we use the current liberal standard , you are rich and should share with the less fortunate (me ) Im not greedy so I can get by with just one light ...And if you really don't want to mess up that nice paint job , i would just buy a cheap clear light and mount it under the bumper and call it good .. and sell the other light and donate it to some fund for people that are easily swayed to vote for ,well you know......sorry , just have had a bad day....you do know what opinions are like rightr ?? call me when you need my address..
