70 c20 disc brake conversion
1970 c20 custom camper 2WD 8 lug eaton rear
I saw some disc brake conversion info on here, but I'm having a hard time finding specific details. It seems the 71+ trucks got the disc brakes up front. So I guess a 71 - ??? would be needed for the swap? Would I be able to just grab the spindle, rotor, caliper/brackets, master cylinder etc. or would I need the entire crossmember? It looks like 71-72 I can grab the few parts and can swap crossmembers up to 87? I see the disc brake conversion for the rear here http://www.blackbirdscustomtrucks.co...x7.html#5eaton is there any stock application I can grab this from? If the rear can't be converted cheaply, its unlikely I'll even bother.

Re: 70 c20 disc brake conversion
I think if you upgraded to discs in the front that would be plenty, unless you're doing a ton of heavy towing. I think you can use 71-72 parts if you grab the knuckle and all associated brake pieces, and I'd recommend a new MC for a 71 or 72. If you get 73+ you'll have to change your ball-joints and tie-rod ends, or you can grab the whole steering linkage, etc.

Re: 70 c20 disc brake conversion
sounds good.
BTW this truck is more of a daily driver type vehicle than anything. I may get a car trailer for it in the future, but it won't be a common thing. It looks almost like converting to rear discs is cheap in the long run, as it uses more common off the shelf parts than the standard eaton drums.

Re: 70 c20 disc brake conversion
Yeah, but long-run how many more miles do you plan on putting on this truck? I'm at 77k on the original rear drums and they seem to be doing fine yet, lol.

Re: 70 c20 disc brake conversion
grab the whole x member from a 71-72 C-20, direct bolt in. if you are just grabbing the parts you listed, you need the 71-72 centerlink as well so the inner tie rods match up.

Re: 70 c20 disc brake conversion
not a lot. Probably the next time I do the rear brakes will be the last time lol. I have no idea how they look right now, but the truck has about 375,000 miles on it.
