Which rear end ?
Hello all. New to the site. Just picked up a '67 this year. Is this the famous Eaton rear end? Doesn't' seem to be much info on it. Any tips on doing the brakes on this? Haven't had the best luck with my manual. Thanks for your patience with a newbie.

Re: Which rear end ?
My vote is HO52, 5:13 or 4:56. Remove the axles, then remove the outer bearing and the whole 700lb drum should come off.

Re: Which rear end ?
Thanks for the info. It's a 4:11 actually. The original build sheet survives and I checked the ratio manually with a formula I found on this site and it checks.
That's what I thought about the drums. I got the original '67 GM shop manual with the truck and it says the drums are demountable. Unscrew the hold down screws and it pops off. Then from the diagram it looks like exactly like what you said I have no patience with that. Are there any good manuals in print you could recommend?

Re: Which rear end ?
This is mine, it looks like yours and is the non-demountable type.

Re: Which rear end ?
I did the brakes on mine when I got it. Good thing, as it appeared that they hadn't been done since new (metal to metal gives great friction).
I did a standard rebuild on them (new shoes, ground the drums, rebuilt the cylinders, new fluid) plus seals, gear lube for the rear end. I think I was into it for around $125. You can't get the drums anymore is my understanding. It wasn't that difficult. Pull the axle bolts, pull the axle, loosen the locknut with a chisel/hammer if you don't have the massive socket, remove the locking ring and inner nut, then pull the drum (you may have to loosen the shoe adjuster if it has cut a significant ridge). Once off you can pull the seal and bearings.
