Hey all, im cleaning up my brake reservoir today, but now that ive got the thing off and realize how simple the system is, im wondering how hard it is to upgrade to a pwr brakes system.

first: my res seems gummed up in the bottom, can i clean with lacquer thinner? i read air is a no no.

second: does anyone know of a picture play by play tutorial on how to upgrade stock brakes to a pwr brake system? do i use the same reservoir i already have? also i read about one person blowing their drums up after upgrading to a pwr brake system. is this more dangerous with the pwr brakes??

71-72 booster and the original MC.If you've got yours off,you may as well replace it.They are very resonably priced and most auto parts stores should be able to hook u up.You will need the brackets and power booster to upgrade to power brakes.The one pictured will probably work but require mods to make it fit.

Depending on where you're from, go to a junkyard/salvage yard and see if you can locate a 67-72 truck with power brakes.

Yes, the round one is the booster. You will need everything from the brake pedal link under the dash forward. Otherwise, you can look on ebay or craigs, peruse the for sale forum on this site.

Once you gather the parts you wil find it's relatively simple.

And, no, whoever said that power brakes destroy the drums doesn't know what he's talking about, heard it from somebody that races, had weak thin drums or was plain lying. Take your pick. GM would not have used them on thousands of cars and trucks back before disc brakes.

what about my existing Proportioning Valve? i think that's the thing under the brake master cylinder? will i need a new one of these or the one off the truck with the power brake system? and also, how bad do these power brake systems get if i go pull one out of a truck thats been sitting a few years?
