Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow

Thanks guys! Perhaps one day I will join the 60-66 crowd. I have always had a soft spot for these trucks! Unfortunately I have a soft spot for too many of these old chevy's!

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow

Man, talk about binging this thread back from the dead! So, for the past year, I have kept the phone number of this trucks owner saved in my cell phone! My wife held up her end of the bargain and I was able to buy a '67 Pontiac GTO. I was initially looking for a chevelle but fell for the goat. Anyway, a friend of mine was looking for a truck and we called the guy that owned this truck. The guy still had it! Had not advertised it since a year ago when I looked at it. My friend bought it this morning! He is super stoked about it! It fired right up when he went over there. He got it for a smokin deal! We are in the process of rebuilding the carb right now. Maybe he'll join the forum and post up on this thread!

does anyone have a picture of the stock throttle return spring and bracket? The way that the return spring mounted did not look correct.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow

Well I am the new owner of this truck. Here are a few pics the day I brought it home. My plan is to start driving this thing as soon as possible. I have alot of plans for this truck but I want to keep it driving as much as possible during restoration. This truck has been sitting for several years, so I have alot to do before I am comfortable driving it.

Welcome to the site! That is a killer '66!!

Take your time and get everything up and working good and I am sure it will be a great daily driver during the restoration process.

I have been driving my '66 every day for over 2 years while I gather everything for the restoration.

Keep us posted on your build.

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow

I actually paid less than $2k!! $1300!! The day I bought it, nikwho and I rebuilt the carb. Today I replaced belts, Radiator hoses, all fluids & filters, and drained the old gas. I filled it up with fresh gas and it fired right up. Some minor adjustments to the carb and me and my kids were cruising! I have been smiling ear to ear all day. I did figure out after driving around most of the afternoon that none of my lights work. So I get to spend tomorrow figuring out whats wrong. Otherwise I can not believe how nice this truck drives.

$1300?

Man, that would of been a score at $2000.

How about some pics of the inside and motor?

Re: looking at a '66 to potentially buy tomorrow

Nice find. I have a 64 camper special 292 4sp I saved from a family member's cabin. last plated in 99. I had to put new fuel pump and rebuilt carbs and she was rocking. Tank was rusted so I am using a boat tank in the bed for now. I think you had mentioned that you wanted to lower it right? I did lower it but am having a few issues with the overload spring bracket. It hits pretty hard on decent bumps but smooth as can be normally. I used 98 tj springs (4cyl) in the back and it sat about 4-5" out back and then I cut one coil off (playing it safe) in the front. Wish I went a little more but that got about 2" or so. Let me know how your build goes if you change anything out since it seems like I have not found many 3/4 camper specials on here.

thanks

Thanks for pointing your friend to that truck.

I'm jealous he got such a screaming good deal, but I'm happy it has a good home.
