intake manifold?
Guys and gals? I am having trouble finding a carburator to fit on my late 70's sbc 350. I bought the engine/trans rebuilt just needs finishing on the outside parts. the intake manifold is a edlebrock performance rpm. I bought a useable carter 650 that supposely would fit but didnt and I could get my money back the guy said. Next I got a free rochester carb from a friend and also a 4 barrel and with adapter that i tried with and without on both carbs. Nothing lines up. I do not want to spend hundreds on a carb. So I most likely need another manifold? so I do not spend $300 on a carb.
I could not take picture of other setup because I have limited camera use. and leave comments. Ima poor boy and giving my all to build my truck. Its what make life better in a sick way haha.here is some with the carter 650 carb. |

Re: intake manifold?
with the carter 650. None pictures of rochester but does not work either. I rather not look for an adapeter anymore. Those things suck. Ima sucker for old chevy trucks. Taking up my whole life. hahaa but soooo worth it in the end with the headaches gone.

Re: intake manifold?
That is a very old Carter AFB carb. Prolly came stock on a Pontiac or Buick. Get one of the newer AFB's or one of the Edelbrock carbs (just like the newer AFB's). Or a Holley square bore carb like an 1850 series in 600cfm.

Re: intake manifold?
I think I am gonna try to sell the intake manifold to get a older one or one that will work for a rochester quadrajet I have. I think it maybe better anyways.

Re: intake manifold?
BOth carbs suppose to be good. the intake manifold is the problem. its to wide. I am not pay $200 or 300 for a carb. That just ridiculous. I had a rebuild carb on a 64 chevy truck i owned and they rebuilt it for $90 and was good for 6 years. Thanks for offer but gonna look around Oc/la/riverside area. Should not be difficult to trade this for something that works for me. This is a new manifold never used. I bought this 350 rebuilt. Always one thing after another. This is my last project for a llllloooonnngg time if ever again haha. tired

Re: intake manifold?
Best set up for that is the new Edlebrock performer carburetor IMO.
I bet the next time you will do a little Google work before you buy another expensive part eh? Simple look up of that manifold from the manufacturers website would have led you in the right direction before spending money. I see those Edlebrock carbs for sale on this site all the time, and they usually go pretty cheap. For an everyday kick around set up, you can't beat that carb since it is basically bolt on and go. That old Carter, I would take down any numbers on it and advertise it for sale someplace. Since someone is usually looking for the original or period set up for their project, and hopefully you can recover the money you spent on it. Not that anyone here has ever purchased an expensive part, only to find out that they got the wrong thing for what ever reason - nope, never happens! yea right. It's all a learning experience, and the trick is to learn as cheaply as possible.

Re: intake manifold?
You could always use an adapter! http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1401/ These also help with atomization by effectively lowering the split plenum.

Re: intake manifold?
You tried an adapter? You should be able to go to your local DIY parts store and get an "any 4 barrel to any 4 barrel manifold" adapter for $20-30 that will work.
