cooper m+s suv tires for my 3/4 ton non load carrying

hey all, i bought some tires today for $10 each, bout 35% tread left. they are 270/65/16 coopers, guy said they were off an suv, they didnt say LT on them, but i dont plan on running load with them anyway. should i be concerned about them not supporting the weight of the truck? 3/4 ton 8 lug chevy c20 long bed stepside

The tires will have the maximum load and air pressure information printed on the sidewall. If you have an idea of how much your truck weighs, you should be able to determine if they are suitable.

The 67-72 trucks were built before the "minimum tire requirement" labels were mandated to be affixed to the driver's side door under federal law, so it might not technically be "illegal". It could possibly become a liability issue in the case of an accident, but you would probably have to ask a lawyer about that.

Assuming it was a full size SUV, they weigh in around 5500 lbs (give or take a few hundred depending on model and assuming 4wd)

Your truck, being a 3/4ton 2wd, probably doesn't even weigh that much. Depending on option, I'd guess in the 4600 area. So they'll work fine.

Good score, btw!

That's plenty, my C/20 weighs 4400 lbs. empty which would be 1100 lbs. Per tire.

Just an FYI, I had some Coopers several years back. I bought brand new before I set out on my trip to Texas with my camper on the truck. By the time I got 2/3rd's of the way back into California from the trip I had a God-awful rear "thump thump" I pulled over and BOTH rears were separating!! Thank heavens I stopped and checked!
I will NEVER use Cooper tires again..they suck! But, maybe you'll have better luck but these were their top-of-the-line "E" rated, A/T tires.
