need help

steering wheel will not turn while sitting still.belt and fluid are ok.thanks in advance.

Did you check to see if the power steering pump pulley was actually turning when the truck was parked and idling? A very loose belt might cause you to loose power steering at low speed. A very bad pump might do the same thing. You should still be able to muscle the steering wheel even if the power steering pump was not functioning.

You may have sheared the torsion shaft inside the pump. Use a pry bar or a screw driver and see if you can pry the pulley away from the pump housing. If it moves outward you need a new pump. You can compare the effort needed with engine running and the engine not. Not an uncommon problem. Good luck, Ron
