You can get ball joint boots from energy suspension. You can also probably rent a ball joint puller that won't mess up the boots, or you can just smack the **** out of the spindle with a BFH.
If you know how old your ball joints are, and they are still tight, no need to replace them.
My 33 year old truck still had the OG balljoints in it..I replaced them, but they definetly still had many, many more miles of service left in them.

the ball joints are only about $22 bucks a piece, why not just change them out and not have to worry about them again?

There's no need to replace them if they're in good shape.

With the spindle off, grab the BJ shaft & move it around. A lot off effort to get it moving = no need to replace; little effort = replace them while it's apart.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I think your going to have a hard time finding the lower ball joint dust boots. I bought new ball joints just for the boots an they really don't fit the old ball joints very well at all. The rubber has also cracked badly in only six months time. This may be something you want genuine GM product for. I know I wisedd I did.
