New Model Squares
Hey guys how's it going. I was just wondering, is it just me or do the newer model Silverado's (08 and up) look like our 73 to 87 square bodies? I've noticed their new squarish lines and started to think that maybe GM is bringing back some old school flavor on their new school trucks. Anyone feel free to chime in!

Re: New Model Squares
No, I don't think they look similar. I think they are ugly as hell. I thought the style that came out in '98 looked ok (if a little bland). I liked the scruntched up face of the 2003 refresh too.
Sometimes I think about the car makers coming out with a car that looks EXACTLY like the original except new...like a '57 chevy, or a '69 camaro, but not stuff like the modern charger and mondern camaro that look sort of like the originals, but not exactly. The truck industry makes "glider kits" where everything is new except the frame rails...that way they can essentially sell you a new truck, that meets older year emissions standards..I'd love to be able to take my '78 frame rails, and put all new sheet metal, engine, etc on it, for say...10k |

Re: New Model Squares
I thought they should do this, like the new camaro old style with new tech. I guess great minds think alike. Not seeing where they look alike. The way ford went back with mustang, i know id be the first in line if chevy went back to the best body and beloved years.

Re: New Model Squares
They do kinda look alike but I agree that new square bodies would be pretty sweet.

Re: New Model Squares
The new trucks just look to bulked up. they are squarer but not square-bodied by any means

Re: New Model Squares
I can assure you there was no connection; there's not a picture of a '73-'87 truck anywhere in the Truck Design Studio.

Re: New Model Squares
There might not have been any photo of an old square in the studio, but the marketing team was pushing the "heritage" of the squared off wheel openings when the latest body style came out in 2007. I'd have to dig to find it, but I remember reading details that they had pulled some design cues from older models. I'm not really a fan of the 2007-up styling on the chevy side of things. GMC's look better, but the Tahoe/sub/avalance front ends are really the best of them all. Put a Tahoe clip on a silverado and you got a winner in my book.

I will agree with you that, for several years, I have preferred the SUV front ends and wished they had been used on the pickups. K

Re: New Model Squares
I'm not saying they purposely tried designing it using our classic models as a starting point, I'm just saying that the body lines look some what square-ish. And yeah, the SUV front ends look way better.
