89 Sub tailgate to barndoor conversion

I'm not a fan of my 89 Suburban's tailgate
I like the barndoors a whole lot more.

Is it possible to install barndoors where a tailgate once was? Obviously some bits are gonna have to come off.

Thanks for any info

Gerald

I am not positive, but I have heard it's probably easier to buy a burb with the barn doors than to convert. Pieces would have be cut and new stuff would have to be welded in. Hopefully somebody can offer up more specifics soon.

I think we had this discussion a while back and found that the 73-80's there were provisions for both. (my '78 had the hinge mounting holes covered, but had a gate) But the 81-later didn't have this provision. I say check and see.

I think Chris is right. You can't convert an '89.

There is a guy on CK5.com that says he's doing it. Waiting for some pictures to show up. I haven't had a chance to look at a barn door and see exactly what is different.
I'm in the same boat. When I was ready to buy I could not find a 454 barn door burb that was worth a damn. Settled on a 88 with a gate and 72k original always garaged truck. I will be doing a lot of pulling of a travel trailer and where the toung jack is I cant get the gate open. Real hassle that I wouldn't have if it had doors.

Take a peak in the sub section of CK5 every once in a while and see if it shows up.
