I used the one from O'Reilly's and wish I hadn't, scared my powder coated control arms up. I think this one would work well http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...89311/10002/-1
but however, mine is a bare frame so no weight from the engine on it to use the jack method for install. But I used the floor jack method for removal.

i have drop coils and the coils are too close together to fit the hooks between!

The little block that holds the hooks together wont fit between my coils or through the bottom hole in the control arm and since the angles on the bloc are cut at 90 degrees i cant really maneuver them in any way to make it work.

Using the floor jack method can be safe if done right. One thing no one has mentioned is to be sure and block the frame in the rear on the opposite corner, and be sure you have the truck high enough for the lower control arm to rotate all the way down. Also with the bump stop pad still in place it's not as easy to flip the coil out. Take your time, bust the ball joint loose first and ease it down slow and stay to the front of the truck, you don't want to be in front of it if it would get away from you.

I use the jack method all the time and never had a spring shoot out. dont pay for a spring compressor.

Don't laugh at the newbs, we were all beginners once.
I put my first engine together with nothing but oil on the head bolt threads...The torque specs called for it that way, but w/o some kind of sealer, it leaks coolant like a sieve. It would have been no worse to just pour it directly on the driveway....ask me how I know.


I would much rather answer someone's question regarding caution than how to repair something after a mishap....or hear about stitches.

No need to be rude about it bro i'm new to this and have to learn some how safety first man i would rather do it once and do it right than have to re do it or worse get hurt...if you dont have good helpful input than don;t say anything at all im 19 years old and im teaching myself its my daily driver so i have to have it back up and running for the next morning so i have to do it right the first time i cand afford to do it wrong!
